Barb Johnson Artist
Painting the images that take your breath away.
As an acrylic painter I am focused mostly on the beauty of landscapes. I am drawn to big dramatic skies, monumental mountains, and the vastness of the prairies. I paint mostly on canvas using layering of colors and textures with a brush and pallet knives. I like to use simplified shapes and color to define the light, values, and contrasts. I believe this approach leaves the viewer open to enjoying the painting with regards to their own experiences and emotions. My goal is to bring joy to the viewer.
Barb Johnson has lived in southern Alberta, Canada, for most of her life. She attended Mount Royal College (Calgary) and The University of Oregon studying Interior Architecture. Self-employed as an Interior designer for several years, Barb eventually turned her focus to the visual arts. She has worked in color pencil, watercolor and now mainly paints acrylic. Photography has always been a part of Barb’s life and has become an invaluable tool in her painting practice. Barb and her husband love to take road trips off the beaten path to find landscapes that take their breath away.
